elilley@aol.com Ed and I visited Myrtle yesterday, January 23, at Triumph Hospital. We celebrated her birthday a few days early. Myrtle was in good spirits. Dr. Gupta, her doctor at Triumph, came in to see her. He said she might get to go home sometime during the week of January 25. Myrtle ate almost all her lunch while we were there, along with a small container of strawberry ice cream and a birthday cupcake. It was a good visit. We talked to her after we got back home, and she reported that she had eaten another cupcake. She stored her extra ice creams in the freezer at the nurses' station to eat later. Janie

elilley@aol.com Ed and I visited Myrtle today. She has made a lot of progress since we last saw her Sunday, January 10. She was wearing street clothes and sitting in her wheelchair when we arrived. Myrtle may go anywhere in the hospital in the wheelchair; she uses her feet to move. If she leaves her room with her walker, a nurse must be with her. She may not leave the third floor; they do not want her to get too far from her room and be too tired to get back. At lunch time, she rode down in the elevator with us and showed us where the cafeteria is. We took our lunches back up to Myrtle's room just in time to find that her lunch had been delivered. She ate most of her lunch. Just before we left the hospital to return to College Station, a therapist came to help Myrtle do her arm exercises. We had a very nice visit. Janie

Bob Jarmon <bob_jarmon@mcruz.com> Myrtle called and she had just talked to her doctor. The doctor said that they did the endoscopy procedure to make sure there was no bleeding since she was on Coumadin. The doctor said there was not bleeding. He told her that her lungs were improving but that there is still a little pneumonia in the left lung. He also told her that he may x-ray her neck to see if he could see anything that would affect her swallowing. She had a slight fever today but said that she is not feeling band. I will go by and see her tonight. Bob

Bob Jarmon <bob_jarmon@mcruz.com> Myrtle had an Upper endoscopy procedure yesterday. She did fine, however we don't really know why they did the procedure or what they found. I would imagine it has to do with her swallowing. Mary is going to try to talk to someone today. Myrtle looked good last night, was very talkative and had eaten most of her supper. She is starting physical therapy today in order to get her strength back. I will update if we hear anything from the doctor. Bob

elilley@aol.com Ed and I visited Myrtle at Triumph Healthcare this afternoon. Her neighbor Gene was there when we arrived. Myrtle was in good spirits and has improved since we last saw her Monday, January 4. She reported that the doctor had told her than one lung is better and the other lung is not better. She is not using the nasal cannula for oxygen, though the cannula is ready for her should she need it. She still gets an antibiotic, but she was not hooked up to the IV when we were there. The IV pole is there for when she gets the antibiotic. She walks with a walker, and she anticipates walking more when her rehab begins tomorrow (Monday). There is only one chair in Myrtle's room, and it is not easy to move. When Gene was there, we all stood. Later, Ed sat in the wheelchair, and I sat on the bed. She ate all of her pear halves and cherry crunch, some of the tuna salad, some of her tomato slices and some of the green salad. There was no thickener for her liquids. She did comment that she likes to have her meals prepared and brought to her. All in all, we were encouraged about her recovery. Janie

Bob Jarmon <rjarmon@sbcglobal.net> Myrtle is doing better but will probably remain in Triumph for 2 to 3 weeks. She still has some pneumonia in her left lung which they are still treating with antibiotics. She had me bring her some clothes and she is up walking around her room (with the walker) and sitting up for long periods of time. She told me she thought she was caught up on her sleep. She is tired of the hospital and ready to get home. Bob

elilley@aol.com Ed and I visited with Myrtle in the hospital Monday, January 4. She was much, much better than she was the last time we saw her Wednesday, December 30. She was having trouble eating because she had thrush in her mouth. The nurse came in and told Myrt that the doctor had called in some medicine to give her some relief from the mouth sores. She talked the nurse into giving her some strawberry ice cream to eat. The cold ice cream was comforting for her mouth sores. When we were there, Myrtle still had the catheter, the nasal cannula and the IV. They didn't have her hooked up to the IV all day long--only when they needed to give her some medicine. All her liquids had to be thickened because of her difficulty swallowing. She did not like the taste of the thickener. Loeta came to visit while we were there, and we had a good visit with her too. Bob Jarmon <rjarmon@sbcglobal.net> Myrtle is slowly getting better. Mary spoke with Dr. Patel (Lung Dr) and he said that parts of the lungs are better and parts are worse. Over all the lungs are better. She has been sitting up in a chair for 2 to 3 hours at a time and walking around a little bit. The doctors are going to evaluate her tomorrow to see where she needs to go after she leaves the hospital. Hopefully we will hear fro the case manager tomorrow. Myrtle has had a lot of company the last two days and she is loving it! Bob Jarmon

Bob Jarmon <bob_jarmon@mcruz.com> Sorry it took so long to get the "Myrtle Tracker" working again. We had some software issues. Myrtle has been in the hospital since December 26th. She has had Aspiration Pneumonia. Apparently this is fairly common with people that have Parkinson's. She is on the mend and doing well. We do not have a release date yet, but I would imagine that she will be released from the hospital sometime this week if she continues to improve. The doctors will probably want her to go to rehab before she goes home. I will let you know when I hear something. Bob
